RITUAL

When you take an action as ritual, meaning that you see the importance of it in your life and you feel satisfied to keep doing it until it becomes a daily routine and ritual. As same as consumption of bubble tea that is a ritual for some people. From our research over-consumption of bubble tea leads to health problems such as diabetes and obesity.

Therefore, our design is created to address the bubble tea consumption through the application that closely monitors your daily consumption behavior to stay Healthiee

Design Challenge

“WE WANT TO CREATE A BETTER AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE AMONG PEOPLE, STARTING FROM CONSUMPTION BEHAVIOR WHICH WE WILL MAINLY FOCUS ON BUBBLE TEA.”

To identify the challenge, we talked about a modern ritual that is prevalent in society these days. We mainly focused on our daily basis such as what do we do start from waking up to going to bed.
Many ideas were flying around the discussion such as the use of mobile phones before going to bed and eating behavior of office workers. Finally, we agreed to work on bubble tea consumption that many people are addicted to regardless of age. Then, we came up with a design challenge for this project.

Secondary Research

To have a clear understanding of bubble tea’s danger and the amount of sugar that the human body can take. The information can be applied in the idea generation process as well.

Interview

AD-HOC INTERVIEW: 15 PARTICIPANTS
LOCATION: SIAM

Ritual: แฟ้มผลงาน
Screen Shot 2562-11-18 at 21.20.44.png

The data shows that 73.33% of interviewees chose to drink bubble tea based on its sweet taste. The rest is based on the promotion of each store and considering bubble tea as a meal replacement.

When asked about controlling or reducing consumption, 53.3% fail to do it or do not want to stop consuming. While 46.7% is trying or in the progress of controlling their consumption of bubble tea.

We let them think of a symbol or representative of bubble tea in their opinion.
Many of them said that it is an energizer that keeps them awake during the day or boosts up their energy to face hot weather and a long day of work. People also mentioned about bubble tea is something that they can’t live without such as a mobile phone and bag. There is one interesting point that bubble tea is a pillow that gives a feeling of relaxation and alleviation that charges the person life battery.

IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW
2 PARTICIPANTS

Screen Shot 2562-11-24 at 19.37.35.png

Participant 1 : 21 years old

She has known bubble tea for 5 years and she usually drinks bubble tea for 1-3 times a week. The main factor that influences her to drink is the people around her, such as her father and friends, who are bubble tea lovers. Her favorite order is brown sugar milk tea.

She feels happy and satisfied every time she drinks bubble tea. There is nothing to replace bubble tea, but if she has to choose other things except bubble tea, she will go for ice cream or frozen yogurt.

She used to have a fitness application that calculates calories she consumed a day but it didn’t motivate her to keep using it so she deleted the app. It would be great if there is an application that motivates users by having a score collecting function or interaction for users to engage or take action.

“BUBBLE TEA IS MY HAPPINESS”

Screen Shot 2562-11-24 at 19.37.52.png

Participant 2 : 49 years old

She has known bubble tea for 8-9 years and she drinks bubble tea 3-4 times a week. She is aware that bubble tea is going to make her fat and destroy her health which is why she pushes herself so hard to exercise, in exchange for her happiness to have bubble tea.

Drinking water can distract her from drinking bubble tea because sometimes being thirsty making her feel like she wants to drink bubble tea. Tools that can control her bubble tea consumption can be an activity or campaign on social media or even competition.

IT IS TOO GOOD THAT I AM ADDICTED TO”

Data Analysis

We combined the data from Ad-hoc and In-depth interviews together and clustered the insights
into 4 main themes

Ritual: Services

In our next meeting, we created How Might We questions based on the theme that we identified

HOW MIGHT WE ... ?

1. How might we control people's consumption on bubble tea?

2. How might we motivate to constantly have a healthy lifestyle?

3. How might we create a design that is simple and convenient?

4. How might we create an accessible platform that can be
used in daily life

Idea Generation

Screen Shot 2562-11-24 at 20.07.15.png

Brainstorming

To address the HMW questions, we brainstorm for possible ideas that we could think of and selected the best one that would be our design project.
The final selection went to Application.

Creating Prototype

This process took about two hours. We began by drawing structures and elements of the application on the whiteboard. The purpose of drafting it on the board is to see the flow and sequences of the application before getting it into the application creator program and it is more convenient to be erased or deleted comparing papers.

In this project, we used Sketch to design the surface of the application and Marvel to arrange
and collect all pages as a completed version of Healthiee application.

Sketch program is used to design a digital platform such as applications, websites, or games. It has a guideline template that makes everything easier and faster. Moreover, there are many examples provided online for me to learn about the realistic composition of application. As we separated the tasks, so it only took one day to finish every page of our application

Screen Shot 2562-11-24 at 21.47.21.png

We collected all elements of the application together and used Marvel to create a prototype of the application. It is convenient to have Marvel in creating and testing the prototype because everything is done on a mobile phone.

Screen Shot 2562-11-24 at 21.47.34.png

This was the skill-builder session, where I learned about Marvel application and I got to create the rough version of the application on paper and scan to the application.

Testing

We tested the prototype with people who like to drink bubble tea that includes friends and family members. And we collected all the feedback together as a form of a feedback capture grid.

Conclusion

To change something that a person considers it as a ritual is a challenge that takes time. It requires discipline to achieve it. Our project address a ritual of the consumption of bubble tea, which negatively impacts the consumers’ health. By coming up with the application that consists of functions that are created from the users’ needs, it gives us a realistic approach that the users can keep controlling themselves and be able to change their ritual. After testing the prototype, we could see that the functions we gave them are working, however, there are rooms for improvement such as the design surfaces and additional ideas that the users provided in the feedback.
